mulling holiday scents

This is on my stove right now for the rest of the week, because I love the smells this adds to the home. Cranberries and then you toss in whatever fruit and cinnamon sticks you have; add water as it goes down. During Christmas I do this with wine and add wine, as we drink it down. I keep this on warm on the stove or in a crock pot. The greenery comes from my trees; we are surrounded by firs out here in the country. I don’t add the greenery when I’m making this with wine.

Nantucket Cranberry Tart

This is definitely cranberry flavor, I had ice cream with it to help with the tartness of the dish. I like the taste of cranberries, so I’m good with how tart this was. I followed the instructions, and also added some orange zest and cinnamon. The almonds are a must; they are crunchy and flavorful in this tart. This is delicious. I will make this for a fish fry I go to during the summer.

I found this in my TOH Holiday baking magazine.

Fruit and Caramel Brie

Fruit and Caramel Brie in the TOH 2011 Holiday Gathering cookbook.
This is delicious! I doubled the topping, and added half to the bottom of the brie. First, I put half of the topping on the tray, and set the brie cheese on that; I then added the rest of the topping to the top. I would definitely make this for gatherings.

I would definitely make more of the topping just to have on the side of this for anyone who wants extra.

Tip: I used a fresh apple as I didn’t like the smell of the dried apples which I had on hand. I tossed those and grabbed a granny smith, diced it and added to the cranberry and nut mixture.
